The Orbit of Planet Nine

چکیده
The existence of a giant planet beyond Neptune -- referred to as Planet Nine (P9) has been inferred from the clustering longitude perihelion and pole position distant eccentric Kuiper belt objects (KBOs). After updating calculations observational biases, we find that remains significant at 99.6\% confidence level. We thus use these observations determine orbital elements P9. A suite numerical simulations shows distribution KBOs is strongly influenced by mass P9 can be used infer parameters. Combining biases with simulations, calculate likelihood values for discrete set parameters, which then input into Gaussian Process emulator allows computation arbitrary all this in Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis estimate parameters $6.2^{+2.2}_{-1.3}$ Earth masses, semimajor axis $380^{+140}_{-80}$ AU, inclination $16\pm5^\circ$ $300^{+85}_{-60}$ AU. Using samples estimates radius albedo such planet, probability function on-sky its brightness. For many reasonable assumptions, closer brighter than initially expected, though includes long tail larger distances, uncertainties could yield fainter objects.

Observational Constraints on the Orbit and Location of Planet Nine in the Outer Solar System
We use an extensive suite of numerical simulations to constrain the mass and orbit of Planet Nine, the recently proposed perturber in a distant eccentric orbit in the outer solar system. We compare our simulations to the observed population of aligned eccentric high semimajor axis Kuiper belt objects (KBOs) and determine which simulation parameters are statistically compatible with the observat...
متن کاملMercury: the planet and its orbit
The planet closest to the Sun, Mercury, is the subject of renewed attention among planetary scientists, as two major space missions will visit it within the next decade. These will be the first to return to Mercury, after the flybys by NASA’s Mariner 10 spacecraft in 1974–5. The difficulties of observing this planet from the Earth make such missions necessary for further progress in understandi...
متن کاملThe plaNET/ORBIT High Speed Network
This paper presents an overview of the plaNET/ORBIT Gigabit networking system being developed at IBM. It identifies the various network components and their functionality, and describes how the many services provided by the network are supported. The paper focuses on providing a general view on how the different components operate and interact with each other, rather than on giving detailed tec...
متن کاملSolar Obliquity Induced by Planet Nine
The six-degree obliquity of the Sun suggests that either an asymmetry was present in the solar system’s formation environment, or an external torque has misaligned the angular momentum vectors of the Sun and the planets. However, the exact origin of this obliquity remains an open question. Batygin & Brown have recently shown that the physical alignment of distant Kuiper Belt orbits can be expla...
متن کاملa planet out of its orbit: postmodernism in reza ghassemi’s the nocturnal harmony of wood orchestra
the nocturnal harmony of wood orchestra, reza ghassemi’s first novel, is a rare example of iranian postmodernist novel. though the novel has a complicated structure, it is still well-crafted, readable and pleasing, a virtue that very often is not observed in persian postmodernist novels. the present study analyzes the novel in the light of such terms as metafiction, ontological ambiguity, short...
